Every year in November, the Movember campaign (mustache and November) takes place around the world. Movember is a symbol of the importance of health and solidarity among men. Men don't shave their mustaches for the whole month to draw attention to their health. So this is a period when mustaches and beards become not just a fashionable element of appearance, but also signify a commitment to pay attention to men's health issues.
This month, the community is coming together to spread the word about the importance of regular medical checkups and help raise funds for research and support for men who are dealing with these important aspects of their lives.
Movember is an international charity that exists to highlight men's health issues and emphasize the importance of screening to reduce the number of deaths due to cancer, particularly prostate cancer.
The organization collaborates with leading researchers from around the world to identify key research areas for joint work. Since 2011, the organization has allocated A$43 million to key global research projects in the field and has funded more than 1,250 men's health projects in more than 20 countries.
Prostate cancer is a malignant tumor that develops from the epithelium and is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. Across the country, there are about 6,500 new cases every year. Globally, more than 1.4 million men are diagnosed with this type of cancer every year. Simple steps that will be useful to determine a possible threat: a blood test for prostate-specific antigen (PSA); and a preventive examination by a urologist.
Movember is an opportunity to join forces for change, raise awareness, and create positive changes in men's lives.
