How Is Tongue Reconstruction Performed?
Thanks to microsurgical techniques, it is possible to restore the tongue after oncological surgery while preserving its functions. The primary approach involves using a free radial forearm flap taken from the patient’s forearm. This technique not only restores the tongue’s shape but also ensures proper functionality for swallowing and speech.
Microvascular technique: anastomosis of vessels less than 1 mm in diameter, ensuring full blood supply to the transplanted flap.
With the ASOM-5 Loran surgical microscope with fluorescence, surgeons can perform precise surgical manipulations, restoring structures that are critical for the patient. The use of indocyanine green enables real-time monitoring of blood circulation in the transplanted tissues.
