Ukrainian doctors start performing facial reconstruction surgeries on military personnel
More than 30 reconstructive surgeries on the face and neck were performed on wounded soldiers as part of the Face the Future Ukraine mission of Canadian and US medics in Ivano-Frankivsk on October 15-22.
To perform these very complex surgeries, our medics have been preparing for about six months. The stages of preparation included: selecting patients, developing a plan of operations, and consulting with foreign colleagues. A team of 15 world experts arrived in Ukraine: reconstruction surgeons, oculoplastists, plastic surgeons, otorhinolaryngologists, oncologists, anesthesiologists, etc. Our doctors from Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Ivano-Frankivsk have adopted their experience.
For most patients, the bioengineers printed custom-made plates on a 3D printer to restore the integrity of the bones, some of which were destroyed during the injury.
The initiative has also created a prosthetics program for Ukrainians who have suffered limb damage due to the war: currently, 60 people are undergoing prosthetics and treatment at various stages, 20 of whom have already received prostheses worth up to 30 thousand euros.

IT specialists from Donetsk region work with an American startup to create medical devices
An IT company from Kramatorsk is working with American designers to create medical devices for victims of mine injuries. The company consists of employees who specialize in 3D printing and modeling technology and produce 3D printers of their engineering design.
Currently, the company has established cooperation with American inventors involved in emergency medicine. The product is similar to the Ilizarov device but smarter. It will help to respond to injuries more quickly in frontline cities, and even less qualified doctors, including paramedics, will be able to apply it.
