Modern otolaryngology increasingly relies on minimally invasive techniques that ensure predictable clinical outcomes with minimal tissue trauma. One such solution is the ECO radiofrequency plasma surgical system for ENT. Practical experience with its implementation is shared by Nataliia Danyliuk, Head of the Department of the Center for Ear Microsurgery and Audioneurology at Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital named after Yurii Semeniuk.
Clinical focus – controlled action and predictable outcomes
In daily clinical practice, the ECO plasma system is used during tonsil and adenoid surgeries, procedures on the nasal turbinates, uvulopalatoplasty, as well as in the treatment of laryngeal neoplasms, vocal cord polyps, and papillomas.
Low-temperature plasma technology enables cutting, ablation, and coagulation with minimal thermal impact on surrounding tissues. For the surgeon, this means better control of the depth of exposure and a reduced risk of postoperative complications, including bleeding after tonsillotomy and adenotonsillotomy.
According to Nataliia Danyliuk, the implementation of plasma technology has positively influenced the postoperative course: patients recover faster, the need for prolonged hospitalization decreases, and the clinic can more efficiently plan surgical activity in line with the requirements of the National Health Service of Ukraine.
One instrument – multiple clinical tasks
The plasma surgery system combines cutting, ablation, and coagulation functions within a single working instrument. This simplifies operating room workflow and reduces the need for frequent instrument changes during procedures.
Rapid plasma arc formation shortens procedure time, which is particularly important when working with pediatric patients and individuals with comorbidities. The intelligent control system maintains operational stability and ensures predictable tissue response.
Physicians also emphasize the variety of plasma electrodes, which allow the technique to be adapted to specific clinical situations – from procedures in the nasal cavity to interventions in the laryngeal area.
Combination with endoscopic visualization
Within the department, ECO cold plasma is used together with the LORAN 4в1 Full HD endoscopic system. This approach ensures clear visualization of the surgical field, which is especially important during microsurgical interventions in anatomically complex areas.
Beyond clinical practice, the equipment is actively used for training medical interns. The ability to demonstrate the surgical field in real time enhances the quality of specialist training and supports the implementation of modern treatment standards in the region.
